Almenara Hotel Golf Course
The Almenara Hotel Golf Club is home to the Almenara School of excellence. This school boasts some of the most modern golf practice facilities in Southern Spain. With its video studio swing analysis and tutorials, large practice capacity with 3 practice holes and a putting green, this school is well sought after.
Almenara Hotel Golf course was designed by David Thomas and opened in 1998 with a spectacular setting amongst the wooded terrain of pine trees and cork oaks on the first half of the course, with the second half being more open.
It has 2 large, natural lakes and is crossed by several streams making this Costa del Sol golf course one of the most beautiful on the coast.
Almenara Hotel Golf course is a 27 hole course located in upper Sotogrande and just 500 metres from the infamous Valderrama Golf Club and just 5 minutes from the beach.
I have only played this course a few times but thoroughly enjoyed each game. Of all the golf courses on the coast, this one seems to be the most like a British Golf course than any other I have played. To my surprise and welcome, unlike other golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Almenara Hotel Golf doesn't fall prey to the typical rises and undulations that are natural to this part of the Spanish coastline, making it easily walkable.
The course certainly has its challenges, the lakes being one of them, but I felt more likely to play to my actual handicap here than most other courses on the Costa del Sol. The grass and feeling underfoot is true and plush, not solid rock, like a couple I could mention, and not "soggy" like others.
