Beaches on the Costa del Sol - With over 150km of natural coastline the Costa del Sol has many, many beaches to explore. From Malaga eastwards towards Nerja there is 54 km of coastline and from Malaga westwards towards Gibraltar there is 100km of coast.
From fine sand to pebbles, from kilometre long stretches of beach to secluded bays, we have them all here in Southern Spain.
Most coastal town boast well presented beaches, many housing Chiringuito’s or beach bar/restaurants where you can go for that well earned beer and tapas after a days long sunbathing, These beaches quite often have a purpose built paseo or promenade to the rear where walkers and families alike can enjoy a stroll along.
They also have good facilities available in the form of wooden walkways down onto the sand, showers and in most cases they have toilet facilities too. Most large public beaches also now employ lifeguards who are on duty all day long throughout the summer months.
Many of the Costa del Sol’s beaches get awarded the well known ‘Blue Flag’ awards for cleanliness and facilities.
In between towns the landscape is still quite rugged in places, but on closer inspection you may find many a well worn track down to secluded bays and quieter areas of beach.
In the summer months Spanish families flock to the beaches and literally camp out for the day. They will erect tents and canopies, have tables and chairs on hand and picnic until the sun goes down. Saturday morning in a Spanish supermarket where the world and his Spanish wife are stocking up for a day on the beach is something well worth….missing!!
We have tried to be thorough in compiling this list of beaches, some have names and are therefore signposted, many don’t. For the beaches that aren’t named or are a bit obscure we will try and be as precise as possible in giving you the locations of them. This may take a bit of time to put together, so please bear with us and we’re sure the list will be worth waiting for!
