Costa del Sol Golf
The Costa del Sol golf or "Costa del Golf" as it is known, has many (approximately 60) golf courses to suit players of all standards and skill level, from beginner to pro, with many more currently under construction.
Having played most of them at one time or another I will give you as much information as possible, from a 12 handicapperīs point of view. From Parador golf in Malaga, to San Roque golf and country club near Gibraltar you have just a one hour drive or so, passing over 60 golf courses on the way, making your choice all that more difficult yet substantially varied.
What makes the Costa del Sol golf courses so appealing to millions of visitors each year? Well, that is easy...the weather. There are not many places in Southern Europe where you can travel just 2 hours from the rainy north of Europe and have such a choice of golf courses within such a condensed area and be pretty much assured of good weather.
It is because of this weather that you usually find most of the Costa del Sol golf courses in mint condition with lush fairways and "true" greens. It is not normally necessary to show your handicap certificate on many of the courses, but if you have one, I would definitely recommend that you bring it along with you.
It is also not normally a requirement to book in advance as most golf courses offer a "pay and play" theme. Although, if you are travelling in a group, and are looking for a full week of golf, I would suggest that you plan a "route" of courses that you wish to play and book any relevant tee times to be on the safe side.
You will find that most golf courses on the Costa del Sol, like anywhere in the world, have a dress code. Smart shorts are acceptable (and recommended), and tee-shirts with a collar are also a must. Trainers are accepted but again, if you have golf shoes, bring them along too.
I have many of my own personal favourite Costa del Sol golf courses and it is a pleasure having so many to choose from. I would thoroughly recommend that you vary your golf during your visit and build your own list of favourites that you will want to play on any subsequent returns to Spain.
One other thing to consider when booking your golf is the many clubs and associations spread along the coast. By joining one of these, you are guaranteed to receive discounts; up to date Tee-Time information, discounts on equipment hire or purchase and most have daily or weekly competitions with some great prizes. I should know, I have won a few ; ) including a digital camera!
They also have a club house or place where they regularly meet for "catching up" or simply to have a drink or two whilst discussing "that Putt"!
Each of the Costa del Sol Golf courses is listed below, in alphabetical order. We will add to these as they build them so please bookmark us for future trips and Tee Times on these newer courses.
