Lauro Golf Course
Lauro Golf Club was opened in 1992 as an 18-hole parkland course. Since then, it has had another 9-hole course added and is now sometimes describes as Lauro 27 Golf. The golf course is just a few kilometres away from Mijas, but is actually closer to Alhaurin el Grande in the inland countryside. Lauro Golf Course ia set 1000 feet above sea level in a beautiful setting and is adjacent to the preserved forest of the Sierra de Mijas.
The course was designed by Folco Nardi and the majority of it is on relatively flat ground, although the additional 9 holes bring a variety of height and depth to the play. The fairways are defined by cork, pine, olive & citrus trees, and there are several interesting water hazards to deal with. All of the golf holes at Lauro are named after famous Spanish bullfighters.
The Clubhouse at Lauro Golf Course is built in a charming "courtyard" style and is based on a restored typical 18th century farmhouse which is famous for its history of once being a site for the killing of contrabandistas (smugglers).
