Mijas Golf Club
There is something about the two Mijas Golf Club Courses that makes me want to return again and again. Maybe it’s the ever popular Los Lagos course with its wide fairways and numerous water hazards (hence the name), or maybe it’s the smaller "brother" Los Olivos with its small, undulating greens surrounded by challenging bunkers and natural, olive tree-lined, straight hitting fairways
The architect gave the homage "Difficult par, easy bogey" to the courses which are relatively flat, with plenty of water but very little rough. Maybe that is why I like it here, I barely lose any balls!
The Mijas Golf Club courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos, are located in the valley of Mijas, just north of Fuengirola, and only twenty minutes from Málaga international airport one way and Marbella the other.
Maybe it’s the location of the course in a valley, well in from the sea, but I can't remember ever having played in strong winds here….
The Club House at Mijas Golf Club is a refurbished, original Andalucian Cortijo (farmhouse), with a restaurant that spills out onto the shaded terraces. A large variety of clientele from all over the world lives and plays here, so the atmosphere is never dull.
I have played many competitions here and have enjoyed every round. As a big hitter, I find the wide, long fairways of Los Lagos golf course great to let rip and release my energy. I have always played fairly well here as the course suits anyone from beginners to the more experienced.
My only gripe is that due to its popularity, it can get a bit busy so I would recommend pre-booking and an early round (if you can get up that early)! Give both courses a try at Mijas Golf Club as each one is quite different from the other, and I can guarantee you will want to return again and again.
