Montemayor Golf Course
Any golfer wanting a challenge should try the spectacular 18 holes of Montemayor Golf Course. Located in the mountains of Benhavis just 20km from Marbella it is re-known for its tough terrain which is why a buggy is included in the green fee.
Monte Mayor was designed in 1989 by Jose Gancedo and because of the tough landscape all around you will find many of the fairways and greens linked by bridges.
You definitely need nerves of steel to play a round here, you tee off the seventh hole for example from a raised platform driving the ball onto another isolated plateau with the next shot onto yet another!! The green is slightly more tranquil having a waterfall alongside it, obviously there to calm and cool any frustrations!
But with sheer drops and precipices the topographical conditions here add an extra element to the game. I have played here once with a pro and even he was having difficulties as many of the tee and second shots are blind. A reccie around the course in a buggy beforehand is recommended if you have the chance!
Montemayor Golf Course is more of an experience than anything else, with the fabulous Spanish flora and fauna all around you it is very common to see eagles and buzzards circling overhead.
You will definitely have an unforgettable round of golf here and if you rise to the challenge you will see it is worth the effort.
