Parador Golf Course
The Royal Club de Golf in Malaga is also known as Parador Golf Course. Built in 1925 it is one of the oldest courses in Spain and when it opened, with the King attending, it was just the 4th course available in the entire country.
Parador Golf Course was originally know as half links and half parkland but recently, the links half of the course has been designated a 9-hole course whilst the newly built extra 9 holes have been integrated into the other 9.
Due to its proximity to the sea, some holes are made increasingly difficult by some often strong winds. Many of the greens are guarded and protected by flowering pine trees and bushes as well as 3 natural lagoons that challenge you on four of its holes.
The course is very long but extremely flat making it one of the most walkable and pleasant courses I have played. The fairways are wide and lined with more trees and in general, Parador Golf Club is a beautiful parkland course that is well worth a visit.
This is a great course for big hitters but you will need to be accurate. If I remember correctly, watch out for the 11th. Not for its difficulty but because of the planes coming into land at Malaga airport. Not only do they fly by, straight down the fairway, at very low altitude but the 1 minute delay (once the plane has gone) of the "whipping winds" has caught me out once or twice…quite eerie!
